Sheriff's K-9 News

Deputy Derick Smith and K9 Nix were in Springfield for the annual June K9 Competition. AND they came back with a trophy! In this competition Game of Bones, teams from nine counties performed Area Search, Agility Course, Suspect Apprehension, Handler Protection and a Drug Dog Demonstration. In the "Top Dog" Event, our own Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy Derick Smith and Nix finished in the top 3 !

Deputy Zach Akin, a Patrol Deputy with LCSO since 2016, was selected as our newest K9

handler. He and his new partner Bonni have been going through training exercises to get synchronized with one another and to keep Bonni sharp for her next capture. The transition has been a smooth one so far, and both are enjoying the journey and bonding well. Watch for this energetic, crime-fighting duo on patrol in your community soon.
