Search Continues For Missing Fishermen

By Kiera Morgan

Norman Grant from northern California was working on the fishing vessel Prolifik out of Brookings fishing for Crab. They made a stop in Newport last weekend to offload their crab. Norman spoke with his wife Julianne Saturday evening, and that was the last that she heard from him. He went to one of the local bars on the bayfront with the Captain and then to a local restaurant for food. The Captain of the Prolifik said he went back to the boat when Norman went to the restaurant.

The next morning the captain called Julianne and asked if she had heard from Norman as he was late reporting to the boat. Jullianne said that was not like him and began calling around trying to find where her husband may be. He was last seen Saturday night February 8th at about 7:45 pm. The family has now filed a missing person report with the Newport Police Department. Divers have been searching the area around the docks as their is fear he may have tripped and fallen off the dock when heading back to the boat. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Newport Police Department or Jack, Norman's brother, at 707-496-5099.
