Coast Guard Member Recognized By Newport City Council

At the March 18th, Newport City Council meeting Mayor Sawyer read a proclamation recognizing USCG Station Yaquina Bay's Boatswains Mate 3rd Class Michael Martini on being named Sailor of the Quarter and Enlisted Person of the Year. The proclamation states Michael Martini has exhibited consummate professionalism, impressive leadership skills, and a willingness to help others at Station Yaquina Bay and the City of Newport.


He was also recognized for his leadership in mentoring junior members, both professionally and personally; search and rescue missions; personal certifications; underway hours; assistance to disabled or endangered vessels; and his commitment to Station Yaquina Bay and the City of Newport.


Martini has served Station Yaquina Bay well in his community outreach and volunteerism and is the Facebook/social media administrator, for Station Yaquina Bay. He has reached 1.3 million people; helped the Station win the Coast Guard Photo of the Year; and volunteers in local schools through the Partnership in Education Program. Martini also received the Meritorious Team Commendation for rescue of a vessel near the surf zone; earned certification in Critical Incident Stress Management.
