Acer B. Nye Recognized as Sailor of the Quarter

Council President David Allen honored Acer B. Nye on behalf of the City Council on July 15.

The City of Newport, a Coast Guard City, congratulates Nye and Station Yaquina Bay for a job well done, and appreciates the committed protection of commercial and recreational users of Yaquina Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

Nye has exhibited consummate professionalism, impressive leadership skills, and a willingness to help others at Station Yaquina Bay and the City of Newport.

He is recognized for his exceptional initiative and impressive commitment to the boating public, and to Station Yaquina Bay and the City of Newport.

Nye works diligently at professional and personal development, including obtaining certification as a Coxswain on the 29’ RBS-II, garnering an impressive 88 underway hours during the three-month period.

Last, but not least, Nye conducted six search and rescue cases, and assisted 43 lives on the challenging Yaquina Bay bar. Most notably, on June 5, 2019, when the 43-foot Miss Raven lost propulsion between the jetty tips, Nye skillfully towed the Miss Raven back to port, ensuring the safety of the vessel and the 14 passengers on board.
